Pupils’ Blogs

5MD love to blog about….well about anything and everything! If you would like to read our individual blog posts click on the link above.

My favourite post this week has to be Hashim’s post about some of the wonderful teachers at CLPS!

The Perfect Teacher

Image

Hi guys today I’m going to talk about the perfect teacher.

So let’s talk about what you (really me) are looking for in a teacher.

Before we talk about this there are 3 teachers I wouldn’t change a bit,

Number 1. Miss Donnelly, she is a great teacher to have trust me if you had her as a teacher you would not regret a second.

Number 2. Dr Chipindall (A.K.A Dr Chips), is the most silly, funny teacher and is really good at reading stories to the class, the point is he is a really good teacher he teaches me maths, writing etc (Should I say Dr Who?).

Number 3. The queen of teachers is……. MISS CORCRANE, Miss Corcrane is a great teacher. The minute the class saw her we knew she was perfect. She hasn’t done anything to impress us she just has a good heart (and she’s a bit of a softy).

She did teach us about inspirational people from the past e.g Anne Frank (I have the book.), Ghandi etc.

That’s it for today bye.

But the question of the day: Who is your favourite teacher and why?

Please answer that question in the comment section.

May the odds be ever in your favour… GOOD BYE!

Computing: Will my robot be triumphant in battle?

This term’s Computing Learning Challenge is: Will my robot be triumphant in battle?

During this term, pupils will be creating their own computer games using Scratch on ourRaspberry Pis. These games will also use the output pins on the Raspberry Pi to control model robots in our own robot wars!

Here’s a picture of the Raspberry Pi computer. More information about the Raspberry Pis can be found here http://www.raspberrypi.org

Pupils will first learn how to setup their Raspberry Pis and about the input and outputs available on the device. They will then use a version of Scratch that can interface with the output pins on the Raspberry Pi (Dr Chippindall found this version of Scratch on this super blog  http://cymplecy.wordpress.com/page/2/) to learn how to control a small electric motor.

Once pupils have mastered how to create a program in Scratch to control the motor, they will decided how they will use this motor control within their own robot for battle!

Homework

Throughout this term pupils are encouraged to practise and develop their programming skills using Scratch. Scratch is a free program that runs online and can be accessed by clicking the picture of Felix below. Below this there are also some video tutorials on using Scratch to make various projects:

Our Geography Learning Challenge

Our learning challenge this half term will be focusing on developing key skills in Geography and Computing. We will have two big questions: one for Computing and another for Geography.

Our big question for Geography is:

Where do rivers end?

We are going to be learning a lot of new vocabulary as part of this topic. Can you find out what these words mean and bring the definitions to class?

Tributary

Confluence

Meander

Our wow experience for this half term is going to be a trip to the Irk River to carry out river studies. Try to find out as much information as you can about this river.

Homework:

Can you name the main oceans and seas? Can you identify and name the main rivers of the world?

What is the name of the longest river in the world?

What is the name of the longest river in the UK?

What is the difference between the UK, Britain and the British Isles?

Can you find a map with a grid reference?

Why do maps have grid references on them?

If it is 3 pm in England, what time is it in America?
